Computing power at high temperatures – a contradiction?

For a customer that requires serious computing power in a hot environment, Hitex has developed a high-performance processor module that operates reliably at 150° Celsius.

The challenge in this special customer project was to improve the overall performance of an electronic subsystem operating outside the usual temperature range. The computing power stems from the Infineon TriCore TC1766 processor with integrated DSP, secondary core and a multitude of peripherals. This device was integrated as a bare die on the ceramic carrier that was chosen as a basis due to its excellent thermal transfer and high density design possibilities. Aerospace-rated oscillators and power supply components complete the remarkable specification. The device is rated to 150° Celsius continuous running and was tested to 175° Celsius. In addition to the high computing power the device offers a vast variety of communication interfaces and for development purposes an optional fit JTAG connector for full in-circuit debugging. Hitex was chosen as the partner for this project because of their microcontroller and special application experience.
