In this interview, Thomas Lüer, Head of Operations at Hitex, talks about his first year at Hitex and provides insights into the close collaboration between development and production. He explains how flexibility, technological innovations and customized solutions help our customers to bring their products to market faster, more efficiently and more cost-effectively.

We have the capacity for large scale quantities, and specialize in small- to medium-sized quantities for emulators, demo boards, and development boards. We work closely with chip development, so our work often begins before a circuit is available.

You started at Hitex in 2024 as the Head of Operations. How was your first year? What shaped you during that time?

Thomas Lüer: „My first year at Hitex was intense and formative - the time just flew by! Jumping in at the deep end presented many major challenges at the start, from getting to know the structures and processes to organizing the annual inventory and managing the move into the new building. However, it allowed me to quickly adapt and make an impact from the outset.
Working with the team was particularly valuable: We consolidated the stock, disposed of items that were no longer needed properly and took the opportunity to optimize our processes in the new, lean environment. The new high racks with automated technology are a highlight and demonstrate our commitment to efficiency and innovation. Implementing all of this together has made our team stronger, and the results motivate us for further future projects.“

What characterizes working with a team as international as yours at Hitex?

Thomas Lüer: „First of all, I would like to thank my team for the friendly welcome, as well as for answering my many questions patiently. This sense of togetherness and collegial exchange is a real strength of our team. Our Operations team consists of five different nationalities, who are also supported by student help. This diversity is a particular advantage for us. It brings together different perspectives and strengthens our understanding of the diverse needs and requirements of our international customers. Our cultural diversity helps us respond more quickly to different markets, better understand the challenges of our customers and to work together more easily.”

What advantages does Hitex offer customers in development and production?

Thomas Lüer: „Above all, our customers benefit from our flexibility and focus on quality. We have the capacity for large scale quantities, and specialize in small- to medium-sized quantities for emulators, demo boards, and development boards. We work closely with chip development, so our work often begins before a circuit is available.
We can provide support throughout the entire design process. Our close collaboration between development and production allows us to guide customers quickly and efficiently through the various phases of product realization: from component procurement and PCB layout to testing, packaging, fulfillment and even after-sales services such as component replacement or subsequent adjustments. Thanks to our modular service offering, we can adapt flexibly to our customers' individual requirements, whether they involve changes to parts lists or mechanical designs. This flexibility, combined with short communication channels within Hitex, enables us to offer customers fast time-to-market, cost efficiency, and high-quality results."

What innovations or developments would you like to drive forward in the Operations department in order to further improve collaboration with customers?

Thomas Lüer: "We are working on further automating manual processes in order to make our workflows more efficient and precise. We have already taken a big step with the new warehouse system, and additional optimizations are on the agenda, such as improving the comparison of component lists and the testing process.
In the long term, we are also exploring the use of AI to make processes smarter. This will ensure that our customers benefit from shorter processes, higher quality standards, and faster time to market."

How do your customers benefit from your collaboration with Infineon and your expertise in product development and production?

Thomas Lüer: "We work closely with the R&D departments at Infineon, which enables us to make optimum use of synergies between development on the customer side and production at our company. This allows us to develop manageable processes from initial ideas and concepts, making it easier for our customers to realize new products in the desired quantities. Cost optimization also plays a major role here. Our flexibility allows us to efficiently adapt projects to the respective phase - whether prototype development or initial series production - and thus save time and resources. For customers, our experience and proximity to development means we can provide the right impetus right from the start to bring their products to market faster and more cost-effectively."
